The characters on Game of Thrones like to pretend that family names and loyalties matter, but when it comes right down to it, everybody on this show is watching their own back and no one else’s (and some characters aren’t smart enough to bother with the former, Tommen). All men must serve, sure, but nobody in Westeros or beyond is ever totally sure who or what they’re serving at any given minute. So, with that in mind, let’s get started!

Game of Thrones Recap: Face Off
Game of Thrones is back in set-up mode, and the dominos this season have definitely ended up in interesting places. We’ve finally caught up with Arya, reuniting with an old friend; Dany is still struggling to maintain control of her fledgling kingdom; and, well, Brienne is slaying it. (Literally.) Yes, it’s the ladies swim episode of the season, so let’s get started!
Game of Thrones Recap: Something Wicked This Way Comes
Game of Thrones is BACK, gang, and so am I. And I figured, since my American Horror Story recaps seemed to go over well with the approximately four people who read them (hey, Mom!), I’m gonna give the plus/minus format a shot for a totally different show – you know, a prestige drama rather than a free-for-all fuckfest of blood and weirdness. Well, actually… I guess it won’t be that different after all!
Anyway. I will say this now: I won’t be throwing around any totally enormous book spoilers, but since I am caught up on the books and am also totally fascinated by the concept of an adaptation completing itself before its source material, I will drop in bits about the books, but nothing that will ruin anybody’s enjoyment (for example, Tyrion’s storyline looks like it’ll be fast-forwarded a little bit this season, and I will elaborate on that more later – but it’s nothing you can’t infer for yourself). Plus, now that the series will forge ahead, I’m on the same fucking plane as everyone else, and I am PUMPED ABOUT THIS, YOU GUYS. This show has shocked me, disgusted me, and excited me, but after reading the books, it hasn’t totally surprised me, so I am definitely looking forward to that.
Onward to the recap!
The gang got back together! (Can you call two people a gang?)
So, we know we’ve been pretty absent recently. Like, for almost a month. But there are reasons! Like… Ben has had shows, and Nina’s been filling out job applications 24/7, and most importantly, Nina went to Chicago, and the two co-founders of (Pop) Culturally Informed were reunited for the first time since they started the fucking blog. Obviously, a momentous occasion. So, here’s a picture of us right before we ate a bunch of tacos and drank some whiskey. (You’re welcome for the dumb look on Nina’s face.)
And, fear not, reader! We’ll be back with plenty more stuff – Nina will be recapping Game of Thrones starting next week, ICYMI will make a triumphant and GIF-y return, and we’ll work on more regular features. We swear. Seriously.
